As of October 9, 2020, all Bitcoins in the world were worth around 202 billion U.S. dollars, more than five times as much as those of the next biggest crypto currency, Ethereum, according to the CoinMarketCap website. But Bitcoin used to be worth even more: the cryptocurrency reached a market capitalization of over 300 billion US dollars briefly at the end of 2017.
Bitcoin began attracting mainstream investors that year, and although the resulting frenzy for the digital currency catapulted its value to new heights, it also culminated in an imminent collapse in 2018 and a market value that briefly fell as low as 56 billion.
