Decline in Global Factory Activity Eases #infographic

Factories across the world shut down as demand for production dropped, and workers stayed home due to restrictions on COVID-19. Now, new indices measuring manufacturing output show signs that recovery could start for some of the world's top industrial countries.

In a number of indices calculated in Japan, Italy , Germany and the U.S. by IHS Markit, Caixin and Jibun Bank, all reported strong manufacturing results after a tough start to 2020. China, the first country to gain traction in its area in terms of limiting COVID-19 spread, surpassed the expansion threshold by May with an IHS index score above 50 but again missed the important mark in June.

Countries that have felt the brunt of COVID-19 later than China, such as Italy, Germany and the United States, are slowly seeing growth but are still in the zone of contraction.At the other hand, Japan is starting to sink into a deeper recession and a negative decline in manufacturing appears to be taking place. Jibun Bank PMI reached June-11-year low 37.8 index points.
