Naturally the Portuguese language has its origins in Portugal, but it was Brazil that put the language on the map, reaching more than 200 million speakers. While Portuguese is also spoken in Africa and Asia, such as Angola, Mozambique, Macao and Timor-Leste, two dialects reign supreme: the Portuguese European and the Portuguese Brazilians.
The variations extend far beyond the accents. There are also grammatical variations between the two variants, as they differently express verbs in development. Brazilians are also able to pick up Americanisms which are frowned upon by the Portuguese and use native or Latin words instead.
