As the coronavirus pandemic ravages the left and right economies, it also supports one still ailing industry-traditional television. Nielsen ratings of the most successful weekly television network shows indicate a gradual but steady increase in ratings as more and more people hunker at home.
The 60 minute news program saw the biggest increase in ratings, showing the quarantined public is hungry for information. Yet television could also improve its ratings, with comedy series Young Sheldon being the program with the most viewers during the three weeks of Feb 24, March 2 and March 9 (the first week seeing a re-run).
Reality TV shows that the rating disregards either debuted (The Voice) or wrapped up (The Bachelor) within the time period. Sing-off shows American Idol and The Masked Singer as well as police action drama Hawaii Five-0 were other shows that increased their viewership.
