The equinox in Spring is a season for new beginnings. It's a time when many cultures stop appreciating the little things, thanking the earth for their offerings, and welcoming the new season of growth. This infographic visualizes rituals of the spring equinox in 15 countries around the world. While some of these countries find the spring equinox to be the beginning of their new year, some in some absolutely spectacular ways kick off the first day of spring, from setting snowmen on fire to dousing each other with water to consuming huge amounts of eggs. Such countries definitely know how to get going in the morning!
Druids, Pagans, Wiccans, and visitors assemble at Stonehenge each year on March 20 to celebrate the first day of spring. The name of this festival is Ostara, named after the Anglo-Saxon goddess representing dawn. Early in the morning, they meet at Stonehenge to welcome Ostara and watch the sun rise over the ring of stones. In addition to singing and playing music, part of the festival involves drinking dandelion and burdock cordials, which after the hardships of winter are thought to cleanse the blood and serve as a tonic for the body.

The Sechseläuten, meaning "the six o'clock ringing of the bells," is the spring festival in Zurich that marks the day when the work day will begin to end at 6, instead of 5, due to the extra hours of sunlight from spring. The day was celebrated by burning a image of a snowman called the Böögg, who represented winter driving out and spring welcome. It's also said these days that burning the Böögg is a way for the people of Zurich to forecast the weather for the coming season. The sooner the flames hit his ear, the better the weather is forecast to be that season.
